PPS majors sweep top student posts
Six of the most important student leadership positions at Duke have recently been won by public policy majors. They include:
President of Duke Student Government: Jordan Bazinsky ('01)
"I hold just the highest respect for him," said PPS major Sarah Kaffenberger. "He's always thinking way ahead of things. He's always been kind of an innovator. He gets people motivated to do things on their own."

Vice President for Student Affairs: Jasmin French ('01)
Running unopposed as the incumbent VP for student affairs, French said she hopes to influence University policies on alcohol and social space. She has also brought a fresh issue to the table, meeting with minority groups to discuss improving security and housing equity. "She's brought a level of leadership to the organization which was badly needed," said Trinity sophomore Jason Freedman. "I think returning as student affairs VP this time, with the knowledge that she's gained this year, she's going to bring so much to DSG (Duke Student Government)." http://www.chronicle.duke.edu/chronicle/2000/03/01/03Frenchruns.html
Vice President for Academic Affairs: Jason Bergsman ('01)
Bergsman wants to implement a new teacher and course evaluation system, reassess the advising system, expand the tutoring programs and encourage professors to introduce their students to tutoring. A member of the Honor Council and the Undergraduate Judicial Board, he would also like to see more honor code education. http://www.chronicle.duke.edu/chronicle/2000/02/24/03Challengerbergsman.html
Vice President for Community Interaction: Sean Young ('02)
During his two years in Duke Student Government, sophomore Sean Young has been extremely busy, always working on at least one project and sending out mass e-mails to his colleagues. "He's almost at this frenzied level of action that I can't keep up with, said JeremyHuff, current DSG vice president for community interaction. http://www.chronicle.duke.edu/chronicle/2000/02/29/04Younghighlights.html
Editor-in-Chief of the Chronicle: Greg Pessin ('01)
During his term as University editor, Pessin and his co-editor, Jaime Levy, led a staff of six associate editors through extensive coverage of Duke affairs. Staffers report that the two have been visionary, effective leaders with boundless love for the organization. A public policy major with a minor in economics, he intends to pursue a career in law or public policy.

Young Trustee for University Board of Trustees: Justin Fairfax ('00)
Fairfax plans to address three critical areas - residential life, financial aid and community interaction. "I'd certainly like to help with the initiatives that have already been started, like the Campaign for Duke and the allocation of resources,"he said. "I want to make sure that all parts of the University that need [it] are bolstered by the campaign, especially financial aid." He previously served as president of the National Panhellenic Council and president of Alpha Phi Alpha, the only minority greek selective house on campus. http://www.chronicle.duke.edu/chronicle/2000/02/17/06Dsgelects.html
