Still growing
The staff of the Center for Child and Family Policy continues to grow with the following new members:
Cheryl Perry is Staff Assistant for the Centers for Disease Control project on "School and Community Based Violence Prevention Program for Middle School Students." She received a BA in English/Media Journalism from North Carolina Central University and is currently working on an MBA/MHA degree from Pfeiffer University. She is assisting David Rabiner and Bud Reiter- Lavery who are also working on the CDC grant.
Joan Deer is a Research Scholar and Research Coordinator for the Project Kid Start/Stars Plus program and assists Ken Dodge in the service-learning component of a course he is teaching in violence prevention and policy. She graduated with a BA from Hanover College. Following graduation, she worked for two years as a research assistant for Ken Dodge when he was on the faculty at Indiana University. She completed a Master's degree in Educational and Counseling Psychology from The University of Tennessee and a PhD in Counselor Education from Auburn University. In 1991, Deer joined Vanderbilt University as a Research Associate with the FAST Track Project. Her research interests include the development of violence prevention programs, implementation of academic skills and social skills programs, and program evaluation.
Renee Bynum is a Family/School Program Specialist (Interventionist) with Project Kid Start. She holds a master's degree in health education from UNC-Charlotte and a bachelor's degree in social work from North Carolina State University. She has experience in providing educational training in areas of effective parenting, child readiness and child health development. Most recently, she served as a Public Health Educator for Wake County Human Services.
Yaneta Sanchez-Brown is also a Family/School Program Specialist with Project Kid Start. She earned a BA in Spanish Literature from Colgate University and a Master of Education in Special Education with certification in learning disabilities from UNC-Chapel Hill. She comes to Duke from Vance Granville Community College in Henderson where she was the Director of Continuing Education for Basic Skills.
Tracie Yoder is a Family/School Program Specialist with Project Kid Start. She received a BA in psychology from the University of Iowa. She previously worked as as the Preschool Director and Lead Teacher at The Little Gym in Durham.
