Exhibit: Fragments from Another Life
March 8, 2012 to August 6, 201212:00 AM
Rubenstein Hall 142
In her series of 44 black and white portraits, Klevansky tells the stories of refugee immigrants from conflict-ridden countries who arrived in the United Kingdom seeking political asylum, personal safety or escape from war. The photographs include handwritten annotations detailing the sitter's personal connection to the objects. These notes, sketches and poems bring a deeper level of intimacy to the photographs and convey the writer's sense of hope, despair, or longing. Free and open to the public, in the first floor of Rubenstein Hall.

Photography Exhibit: Children and the Experience of Illness 2012
April 24, 2012 to May 24, 2012 9:00 AM // 5:00 PM
Location: See description
Student photo exhibit produced by young patients and their Duke student mentors, from the class "Children and the Experience of Illness," taught each spring by Duke Pediatrician John Moses at the Center for Documentary Studies. Duke undergraduates work closely with a child to teach them how to use a camera as a means of exploring illness ¿ which either the child themselves or another family member is experiencing. Students also conduct their own documentary work. By simultaneously examining the photographs of children and their student mentors, important understandings of the experience of illness can be realized.
